Find a Swallow Hotel
On the 14th September 2006 the hotel chain, owned by London and Edinburgh, went into administration. The
parent company which is the Swallow Group, formed in 1996 by Alan Bowes,
could no longer continue to function financially and now buyers are being
found their hotels.
Two days after the firm collapsed, administrators sold 240 pubs and hotels to investment vehicle Flodrive group, securing the jobs of 2,500 employees.
20 properties for which buyers cannot be found are to be closed. This leaves
400 properties still looking for new owners.
At the time of administration the group operated 671 establishments and
employed a workforce of 7,300. The Swallow hotels chain consisted of 146
hotels.
Hotelier Paddy Crerar bought the rights to the brand name from
administrators Ernst & Young. He then went on to agree management rights to
many of the existing hotels in the Swallow portfolio and plans to add more
over time, many from outside the original portfolio.
