| Introduction:
The Sanderson Hotel London, known
as one of the trendiest hotels in London, is situated just off
from Oxford Street by the Soho end, and close to the heart of
central London and the West End, the area is known locally as
Fitzrovia.
Tottenham Court Road and Regent Street are close by and are two
of the busiest shopping areas in London while Oxford Street is
one of the busiest shopping areas in Europe. Just to the West is Marylebone High
Street. This is well worth a visit as the road is busy and bustling but with a
more suburban and almost village feel in contrast to the areas that surround it.
To the south and just on the other side of Oxford Street is
Soho. Here the nightlife is
hectic and though adult oriented offers plenty of trendy bars and restaurants.
Just beyond Soho is Chinatown which is home to a large Chinese community and
offers a taste of Chinese culture by way of its shops, restaurants and
surroundings. Hotel: |

| Background: The building was previously a 1960's office block and was
occupied by the Sanderson interior design and decorating company and this is where
the hotel takes its name from. The building has landmark status meaning
restrictions on how it can be refurbished are in place. This includes not being
able to remove the original 'Sanderson's' Sign, making the name choice somewhat
inevitable. The creation of the hotel from an office block was the project of Ian Schrager,
the man credited with bringing the concept of boutique hotels to the world,
designed by Philippe Starck, and
opened for business for the first time on April 25th 2000.
Originally owned by Ian Schrager Hotels (ISH), today the hotel is owned by the Morgan Hotel Group who specialise in luxury boutique accommodation and which was formed by Ian Schrager and Steve Rubell in 2005. In October 2006 the hotel was voted the hippest hotel in the UK and the second hippest hotel in the world by trypadvisor. |
